More goodies

This charm pack also arrived on Wednesday. I won this one over at the Hendrix Family blog. Thanks Crystal! I have no idea what to make with this though. I'm sure some idea will come my way sooner or later. Can't sew right now anyways.

This is the block I received from Linda as part of the 3 X 6 Bee over on Flickr. Thanks Linda, I love pinwheels!

My lucky Day

So, Wednesday was the day of my shoulder surgery. Not long after we arrived back home, the mail arrived. I've recently been a very lucky blog reader and I have won a few give-a-ways!!  This hand held wet/dry vacuum is one of the things I have won.
I won this beauty over at Loves of Life.  Thanks Katie!! This bad boy will come in very handy around the house :)

March Schnibble done!

I was able to finish up the quilting on this month's Schnibble Roundabout before surgery.

I actually finished hand sewing the binding on just a couple hours before we left for the hospital.

I didn't find the exact number of green thread that I was using but it is so darn close you can't tell.

I found this fun frog fabric at JoAnn's and thought it would be fun for the back of this quilt.

Mail Call

This is what arrived at my house this past Tuesday. Over at The Year of Enchantment it is the month of the mushroom. Each month there is a "door prize" for the participants to have a chance to win. These magic mushroom fairy houses were made by Jeanne.

She also included these luffas that her MIL grows. Cool huh?

I just have to show you how Jeanne packaged everything. Nothing arrived broken because she packed everything so nicely! Plus, it's always fun to open up little individual packages after you have opened the big box :-)

My month to donate the door prize is July. I already know  what I will be making (and bought the materials needed)  and it will be cute...

I've survived!!

Just wanted to pop in and let y'all know I'm alive :-). The surgery went well. The doctor found several bone spurs along my clavicle and in my shoulder. He removed them all with this special grinding tool. Almost like a fancy dremmel tool. I guess he is a crafter too lol. He also drained the shoulder bursa sac because it was inflamed and filled with fluid but luckily it wasn't infected. I woke up in alot of pain and very nauseous. I've spent the day sleeping on and off and plan on spending the rest of the day/night the same way.

I want to thank everyone for the good thoughts sent my way . It warms my heart and brings a smile to my tired face.

Surgery Day!!

Well, today is the day for surgery! I got home from work a little before 2 am and I need to be at the hospital by 5:30 am. Not much time in between so I thought I would pop in here and let everyone know I will be on and off the computer for the next few days.

This new toy arrived at my house today. I won this little power house from Katie. It arrived a bit before I had to go to work so I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Hubby put it on the charger so I can try it out in a day or two. Thank you Katie!! I think this might be the right tool to help clean up my sewing area. I have all these threads that just keep showing up out of thin air ;) Don't know where they come from lol.

On The Road To Spring

I'm a push over for quilt-a-longs! I joined the On The Road To Spring over on Flickr hosted by i have to say a few weeks ago. This is the top I put together. I grabbed a few of my I Spy fabrics  and some left overs from a plain white sheet and ended up with a baby size quilt. I keep using those I Spy fabrics but the pile doesn't seem to be getting any smaller lol.

Eventually it will be quilted. I was interested in the process of making it but not in finishing it. Oh well, another top to add to the needs to be quilted pile.

You can find the links to each week here.

Pinwheels go round and round

The latest quilt-a-long over at the Old Red Barn Co. flickr group is pinwheels. I had some black and striped charm squares left over from two different charm packs I used recently. I decided to go for a dramatic look to my pinwheels.

I haven't sewn all the hst together yet. I wanted to see how dizzy-ing the effect would be before I stitched them all together. I kind of like it...from a distance lol. I only have enough for a small baby quilt. I think I might hold off on this one for awhile until I can pick up some more of both fabrics. Or, I might just add some fun borders and call it finished. This is one of those quilts that just hasn't decided if it is done yet.

Holiday block swap

Earlier this month I received my blocks from Aunt Pitty Pat's Holiday Block Swap.  These were the themed blocks.

These are the 9 patch blocks. They all measure 12.5".

I was originally in the brights group but due to some flakes, I was switched over to this group. It's OK, I still ended up with some fun blocks.

No green thread means no quilting

I started and finished making this month's Schnibble this past Wednesday (my day off). When I went to quilt it on Thursday I ran out of matching green thread. It looked like the spool was half full but I only had enough to quilt a 1/4 of the quilt.

It's hard to get a good pic of the true colors in this quilt.

I think the colors are fun for a baby. I found some thread that seems to be close enough to the same shade that looks like it will work. I'll probably finish up quilting it sometime this week. I want to have it finished before the surgery date (March 24th) since I won't be able to do any quilting for a few weeks.

DQS8 rcvd.

I received my DQS8 quilt in the mail this week. It was made by bumbles & lu. It's a ticker tape quilt . I've had a quilt like this on my to do list for some time now. I like how it showcases all the different fabrics. It would make a nice memory quilt from past projects.

The snippets on this quilt were hand pieced/quilted onto the main fabric with different colored embroidery floss. It gives the back a fun look.

These are the goodies that were in the package. Some tissues and some mini notepads. The dinosaurs on the notepads are cute.

This is how the package arrived though. Good thin the quilt was in a plastic baggie though. It has been raining lots here this week and the package was a bit wet. I don't know if there was anything lost or taken out of the package since it was wide open though. This is a good reminder to send fabric items in a plastic baggie and to make sure the package is sealed up nice and tight. When I put on the address label I make sure the tape is holding the label on and also closes up the envelope.  I tend to go a bit overboard when taping packages closed.

DQS8 finished!!

I finally finished hand sewing the binding down on this little quilt. You would think a quilt this small would go together a lot faster lol.

Once again the weather is a bit yucky and cloudy out. The colors are close but the pics aren't quite right. This pic looks like the hat is blowing away in the breeze. I'm picturing my "lady" walking along the beach :)

This quilt pattern came from The January 2010 issue of The Quilter Magazine.  Of course I didn't follow the pattern exactly as usual.

If she were walking on the beach, she would need to carry her shoes though.

I've been in DollQuiltSwaps 7 & 8. They have both been fun but I don't think I will be doing it for another round. I think I would rather just make little quilts for my own house. Of course I will still haunt the Flickr group since there are some amazing quilts to see.

Now to start on March's Scnibble. The pattern finally made it to my house yesterday ... while I was out of course. Anyone working on something fun? I'm already behind on my blog reading but I wouldn't mind doing a bit extra :)

Mushrooms everywhere!!

These are scissor and needle holders made from a Patchwork Posse newsletter pattern.

March's challenge over at the YOE blog was to make these mushroom and toadstool houses from  The Little House By The Sea.  I love to sit back and do some hand work. I forgot how much I enjoyed free form embroidery. Even though there is a suggested idea for the embroidery, you are basically left with the decision on how to decorate your houses.

DQS8

Our DQS8 quilts are due to mailed out before Monday the 8th. So in traditional fashion, I started on mine yesterday lol.  This is a pattern I found in a recent quilting magazine. I'll dig out the magazine and post the title when I finish this quilt and post the photos.

The green and red fabric is from Barb. I love to pick up fabric from her shop when I have a bit extra $ burning a hole in my pocket. When I saw this pattern I knew that I just had to use some Samoan fabric for the dress. The dress and the hat are from the same Samoan fabric. The shoes are from the stash. The tan background is from a Walmart sheet I bought awhile back and the green is from Barb also.

I think I'm going to add a narrow tan border to the top and bottom and wide tan borders on the sides. A bit of quilting and a label and it will ready to go in the mail. I think I will try to finish it up
tomorrow. Not feeling like doing much of anything today. Plus, I have to work tonight and need all the strength I can muster for that. Some days I just don't have the energy for it all.
