Rain and Hexagons

I woke up this morning to a drizzly rainy grey day. To bring a little color into my day I decided to make some EPP hexie papers. These are 1" hexies and I bought the punch at JoAnn's using a coupon of course.  I bought a couple packs of cardstock at Michael's using a coupon again. Why pay full price? Normally paper pieces are all white but why? All the cardstock was the same price so why not add a little color to my projects? Once I get them all cut out I will go ahead and punch the center hole. You can only punch one at a time otherwise the handle will snap. At least that is what others have said. I'm not willing to push fate so one at a time is fine with me. It's still alot faster than drawing around a template and cutting them out.

Found Hexies

During my breaks at work, I like to work on hexies.

After I make a few flowers I put them in a ziploc and a store them in one of my craft drawers.

I don't really have a plan for them, I just like making them.

I found all these this weekend when I was looking for some quilt blocks for another project that I wanted to work on.

All of these have been made in the last few months. I haven't worked on any this year I don't think. I miss working on them. I love the rhythm and peace of hand sewing. It makes me slow down and relax. My hands may be going fast but my mind is going at a much slower pace.

Hexing quilt top complete

I finished hand piecing the hexagon Halloween quilt recently. I had a fun time working on it. I was worried it might be one of those projects that I am eager to start but then never actually finish.





I hand embroidered different Halloween inspired motifs in the white center hexagons. There's a bat, a couple pumpkins, a few sayings (including BOO), a skull, a witch's hat, and a ghost or two. A fun little mix if I do say so myself :)




I've decided to just square up all four sides and then I can bind it like a regular quilt. I was going to put a border on but then decided I like it just the way it is. I have some more fun Halloween fabric for the back and bindings too.




I'm hoping to get it quilted this weekend. I have a few I would like to get finished this weekend. Luckily they are all baby size.

I still had a bunch of hexes left over so I decided to make a Halloween stocking with some of them. I'm thinking about quilting the top and having a plain back and lining.
