Sunday Best is a Sunday Finish :)

Sorry for the dull cell phone pics but my daughter borrowed my camera yesterday when she went to the hockey game. Then she decided to stay at her Aunt's and bring my camera back in time to take nice pics. Doesn't she realize that today is the last day of the month? The LAST day to post pics of a finished February Schnibble! lol

I'll add some better pics tomorrow once I have my camera and some daylight.

OK...camera is home and here is a sharper picture :)

Sunday Best Schnibble

I ended up using the original design for Sunday Best Schnibble top. Robbie actually decided which colors went where. I think he did a pretty darn good job!

The pattern called for thinner strips around all four sides but I kinda like it this way. I put these 2 sides on and the quilt screamed "STOP". So, I stopped and I love it this way.
Now to decide on the back. Do you always match your backing fabric to the front or do you sometimes make the back completely different from the front?

Sunday sewing

I was able to get alot of sewing done this weekend. I have to work every other weekend so I really look forward to having two days off in a row. The other weeks I just have a day off here and there but not together.
The above pic is 2 house blocks (stacked on top of each other) that are going to Victoria over at Bumble Beans. She is gathering non-wonky  house blocks (10.5") for a charity quilting project she is doing.

This is my row for the Round Robin that Barb is hosting. I've decided to do something in the line of a rainbow colored quilt. The blocks will be a free for all. I'm just asking that the rows have only white and one other color with no rows repeating the same color. Since purple is my favorite color I chose that for my row. I'm planning on bordering it all with black.

I was also able to work on February's Schnibble "Sunday Best". I'm still playing around with the layout. I don't think this one will win but at least I have the 16 squares done.
I did accomplish a few other things too but no pictures.

How time flies

This morning I showed you my December Schnibbles top. Now I am showing you the completed quilt. Time sure does fly doesn't it? lol I actually made that post a couple days ago and set it up to post today. Since I finished hand sewing  the binding this morning, I thought I would go ahead and get the quilt posted.

Just in case you just popped in and missed the story behind the quilt...I decided that since I do not use pincushions, I would go ahead and use the blocks to make a quilt. I just super sized it a bit. The quilt measures 36" square. I made the blocks 18.5" unfinished.

How did you Schnibblers do this month? Did you get your tuffets done in time? Looking forward to next months pattern :)

December Schnibble top

I finished my December Schnibble top on Christmas Day. While the kids where playing with there new gadgets, I played with my old sewing machine. A perfect way to spend the afternoon. Instead of making the pin cushion tuffets, I decided to just go ahead and make a baby quilt with the squares that were used in the tuffet pattern. After I had half of them done I realized I could have made potholders! These squares would have made nice holiday potholders.

It's been a bit windy here and it took two kids to hold this top so I could get a picture. Robbie is standing on the bench holding the top and you can just see Mandy in the bottom right corner holding it steady.

Sunday's accomplishments

After Saturdays accomplishments, I thought I would see what I could finish on Sunday.

I had the pieces cut out for this tree table centerpiece for about a month now. I was just trying to get my head around how it was sewn together. The directions left it looking more confusing than it really was. I decided to just go for it. It worked out OK in the end.

It measures 17" tall and is stuffed firmly. I learned that it would be better to stuff all 6 sections at the same time instead of each section individually (which is what I did). The 2 sections towards the bottom left were the last ones I stuffed. Since I stuffed the first 4 so full, that left less room to stuff the last 2 sections. If I make another, I will make it shorter and stuff it in a different order.  I think it might need some red ribbon bows tied to the points. Plus, it needs a star on top. Right now it is too tall to put on the coffee table because it blocks the TV a bit.

Robbie was bored so I put him to work.

Didn't last long though lol. Robbie has always loved playing with my fluff. It's never safe around him.

December's Schnibble pattern is Truffles. I have to say that I don't really care for pincushions. I don't use them. I have made them but they just get tossed around by the kids and dog.

That being said, what am I going to do? I made the commitment to make a Schnibble each and every month. I plan on sticking to that commitment.

So, Once again I am going against the norm and making a quilt. I am using all the same patterns that are used in the pattern. They will all be 18" blocks. The first was the shoofly. I have always enjoyed this pattern.

Then I did the courthouse steps. I plan on making them all in Christmas colors. Not sure what the final quilt will measure but it will be an adventure.

Back to work today so I'm not sure what I will finish...

Beautiful weather for a Picnic

I finished the last few inches of the binding this morning. Finished just in time once again. I added an extra black border after the brights. I wanted it a bit bigger plus I think the black helps "end" the quilt. Without it the quilt just didn't look finished.

Once again there is a slight breeze blowing when I went outside to take the picture. Never fails. It is beautiful outside though. A nice day for a picnic. Too bad there is school and work.

This is the first time I tried this kind of piecing on the back. I had a bunch of left over pieces of the brights from piecing the border on the front and decided to add it to the back like other bloggers have done.  I like it and it wasn't very hard to do either. It gives the back a nice touch I think. Sure is hard to get a good pic of it though.

Here is an inside picture. This looks a bit better. I did some wandering quilting in the larger black areas only.

This quilt was a fun one to work on. I didn't learn any new techniques this month but I did learn patience and perseverance. I also learned the value of a good seam ripper lol.

Picnic top

I finished my quilt top for the November Schnibble "Picnic". I had to take this pic inside because Hurricane Ida is causing lots of wind here yesterday and today. No rain, just tons of wind. The wind has blown several grapefruits off our tree to the displeasure of Hubby and Robbie. This poor tree has suffered so much from all the hurricanes that have been through here in the last few years. The boys were hoping this would be the year that they could have more than 2 grapefruits.

I absolutely LOVE how this one is turning out. Just like I had pictured it. That doesn't happen very often. I think the next trip fabric shopping I will bring home a few yards of black. I think a black and bright circle quilt would be fun. Now to just figure out how I want to quilt it.

Did anyone notice that there is a correction to the Picnic pattern over on Miss Rosie's?    It is for those who received one of the first batch of patterns. My pattern is correct as I believe most of them that are being bought for this month are.

It's Picnic time!

A fellow quilter from another board is having some health concerns, so each member was asked to make ONE pink block to send to her. Obviously, I am not able to follow directions because I sent TWO blocks.

I had a bunch of pink strings sitting on my sewing table so my first thought was a string block. I was worried that the other ladies were going to be making traditional blocks so I also made a simple 4 patch. This way she can have a choice of using one or the other or both.

I also was able to start on this month's Schnibble pattern Picnic.

I made a total of 6 blocks yesterday. The last one is still sitting by the sewing machine waiting for the seam ripper to finish his job. 2 out of 6 blocks needed to be redone so I decided it was time to quit for the evening. I wanted a variety of baskets in the quilt so made a couple of each designs provided. The problem came when I started twisting the little blocks and getting them all sewn together wrong. It's so easy to get the pieces turned around when sewing them together. The pattern calls for 16 baskets. I'm hoping to get a few more done today. Plus, I would like to get started on my great-niece's  quilt. I picked up a couple of charm packs so that one will go together pretty fast.

Have a great Sunday!

October Schnibble DONE!!

One finished Schnibble. I was cutting this one close lol. Just in under the wire. I used my newly acquired I spy stash for the center. I was very fortunate to receive a tub of fabric from my neighbor earlier this month. That is where the white inner border and the red outer border came from.

I used a light green thread that worked well with those green snowball blocks to quilt the center. The outer border is quilted with a red thread.

The binding is a blue and white sort of check looking fabric. It reminds me of a guys dress shirt fabric. This also came from the very generous neighbor. Thanks Angel!!

Now it's time to go grocery shopping....

I spy a Schnibble

I finished the quilt top for Octobers' Schnibble project. It still needs to be ironed and squared up.

I recently purchased a box of I spy fabric and decided it might look nice with this pattern.  This quilt gave me a bit of trouble. Lots of colors and squares to keep track of when cutting and piecing. I don't think it helped that my son (10) had a friend (11) sleep over and they were getting loud most of the day. I just couldn't concentrate. I probably should have left it for another day, but I really wanted to work on it.

For this one, I would sew a row together and then immediately sew it o the row before it. I was worried that I would get too confused when it came time to put it all together.

This is the Cindy Lou Who pattern. It really is an easy pattern. I just needed to actually concentrate on this one.

Finished!

My September Schnibbles is complete!

It is made entirely from my stash. The purple back is once again from a set of white sheets I dyed. The binding is from more white sheets that I dyed, this time pink.

I did half of the binding waiting at the doctor's office. the rest I finished after dinner. That's why the pics aren't the brightest.
Has anyone else started their quilts? I love to look at how everyone interprets the same pattern. Simple changes like color can make a world of difference. I like to do scrappy quilts since I'm not very good at mixing and matching colors.

This just in...

I just had to sneak in here and post my Schnibbles top. I had the pieces all cut out yesterday. I also managed to layer and pin it so that I can quilt it tomorrow morning. I would like to take it to my doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon to work on the binding. You never know how long you are going to be sitting and waiting for your time with the doctor.

I'm sure I lost many points on the flying geese. This was my first time doing more than one geese ( goose ? ) A couple of the squares weren't perfect either. Some of the fabric I used was from a recent swap and I didn't realize how much stretch they had.

I really like this pattern. I already have a few ideas for a different version too.
